Health & Safety

Your safety and enjoyment are always my top priority. I carefully consider health and safety before every event and follow professional best practices across all services. Below you'll find specific information for each activity to ensure everyone has a fun, safe experience.

Hygiene and General Safety Practices

I follow strict hygiene procedures at all events, including:

  • Using professional, skin-safe products only
  • Cleaning and sanitising tools between guests
  • Replacing sponges regularly and washing brushes thoroughly
  • Maintaining a tidy, safe workspace
  • Providing a calm, friendly environment where no one is pressured to participate

Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Face Painting & Body Art

I have been facepainting since 2002; I am a member of FACE the UK Face Painting Association which has a strict code of practice for hygiene and safety.

I also hold:

  • £5M Public Liability Insurance
  • An Enhanced DBS Check
  • FACE COVID hygiene certificate
  • Advanced training from the London School of Face Painting

All designs are applied with care, using clean equipment and professional techniques.

Allergies & Products Used

I only use high-quality professional cosmetic face paint and body paints made specifically for use on skin, including:

Mehron - Paradise - Kryolan - Fardel - Grimas - Diamond FX - Snazaroo

These products are non-toxic, hypo-allergenic and contain anti-bacterial ingredients. They can be washed off easily with soap and water.

Patch testing:

If you or your child have a history of reactions to cosmetic makeup and still wish to be painted, a patch test is required. This involves applying a small amount of paint to the inside of the elbow and waiting 20 minutes to check for any reaction.

Face Painting Under 3's

  • Children under 2 years cannot be painted, in line with manufacturer guidelines and insurance requirements.
  • Children under 3 years are painted at the artist's discretion. If the child appears uncomfortable, unwilling, or unable to sit safely, they will not be painted.

This is to avoid distress and reduce the risk of accidental injury.

Skin Conditions

For health and hygiene reasons, face painting will not be offered to anyone showing signs of contagious conditions such as:

  • Ringworm
  • Scabies
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Cold sores

Open wounds, cuts, grazes and scabs will not be painted over, to prevent infection.

Eczema and psoriasis are not contagious, but may be irritated by face paint. As face paint dries on the skin, it can draw out moisture, which may cause discomfort for those with very dry or sensitive skin.

Paint removal

Face paint is water-based makeup and can be removed using normal soap and water. Some strong pigments may require a second gentle wash using a flannel.

Baby wipes are not recommended, as they often contain alcohol and astringents that can dry the skin and cause irritation.

Bubbleology

My bubble solution is homemade using common household ingredients: Fairy liquid, salt, baking powder and guar gum, diluted in 10 litres of water.

The concentration is very low, making reactions unlikely. However, direct contact with eyes may cause irritation - rinsing with clean water should resolve this quickly.

Over time, floors may become slippery. If this happens I will pause bubble activities to prevent accidents. For indoor parties, I bring protective sheets to cover floors and absorb excess liquid.

Parents are asked to stay nearby, as bubbles can be very exciting and children may forget to watch where they are running.

Balloon Twisting

Balloons can present a choking hazard.

  • Balloons will not be given to children under 2 years.
  • Children up to 8 years should be supervised at all times.
  • Children should not put balloons or balloon pieces in their mouths.

Burst balloons can cause injury, and broken pieces can be hazardous if swallowed.
